Energy healing is well documented. If you believe in subtle energy, like prayer or love, then you may have experienced its effect on your physical well-being. Chakras are centers of consciousness. Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit. When we speak of the Chakra system, we are referring to the energy centers that connect our physical and spiritual energy. Chakras play a vital role in the way we function and are focal points of energy which have a direct impact on our daily lives.
All of life is energy. Because energy acts like magnets, we attract vibrations to ourselves that are on the same wavelength as the Chakra from which we are operating. Knowingly or unknowingly, people, situations and experiences are drawn to us by the vibrations we project.
Every moment the energy is flowing to us and extending out of us in the form of thoughts, feelings, emotions and actions. This energy is like debris that accumulates around our energy centers, blocking the flow of light and energy through our body’s natural system. When these Chakras are blocked and energy channels are clogged, a person can experience fatigue, emotional imbalances and other health problems. If the Chakras are open and flowing, we feel vibrant, energetic, balanced, positive, joyful and creative.
There are seven major energy centers that exist in our energy body and extend outward in our Aura (subtle energy field that surrounds the physical body). Each Chakra has its own color, location and rate of vibration and performs a specific function for its owner, and can affect you in a specific way when it is either under or overactive. When we understand how these centers work, we can work with them to bring our body, mind and emotions back into balance. Our body’s seven energy centers are the gateways to our spiritual self. True healing can only take place once we awaken our spiritual self.
Seven Major Chakras—Where are you at?
Here is a brief description of the seven major Chakras to help you discern which Chakra is most out of balance or blocked for you. Know that there will be unfinished business in each and healing your Chakras is an ongoing process.
Base Chakra: This Chakra is located at the base of the spine and its color is Red. When it is not functioning properly, a person lives in fear and insecurity. When functioning properly, this energy center brings vitality and life force into the body. It relates to our ability to focus and manifest our worldly needs.
Second Chakra (Sacral Center): This Chakra is located at the level of spleen and its color is Orange. Blockages in this Chakra can create sexual imbalances, addiction and repressed feelings. The person centered in this Chakra needs the freedom to be creative. When functioning properly, a person is imaginative, energized and lively.
Third Chakra (Navel Center): This Chakra is located at the level of the solar plexus and connects to personal will and power, and the color associated with it is Yellow. Imbalance in this Chakra can manifest as excessive greed and overwhelming drive for personal power. On the other hand when this Chakra is balanced, a person feels confident, decisive, focused and committed to their path. Are you using your energy to empower yourself or are you using it to have power over others?
Fourth Chakra (Heart Center): This Chakra is often known as “Center of Christ Consciousness.” It is located at the center of the chest and is associated with color Green. A person with a closed Heart Chakra can experience loneliness, sadness, neediness, and possessiveness. Any selfless act of giving without any expectation of return comes from this center of love. When this chakra is open person is balanced, kind, peaceful, forgiving and compassionate. The person centered in this Chakra will be motivated by love.
Fifth Chakra (Throat Center): This Chakra is located at the level of the throat and is Sky Blue. This energy center has to do with the power and impact of speech, words and communication. When this Chakra is not functioning properly the energy here can make you opinionated, negative, confused and hostile. When it is balanced, this Chakra allows you to think and speak clearly, confidently and truthfully. The person centered in this Chakra will be able to voice their truth and communicate with focus and purpose.
Sixth Chakra (Ajna Center): This Chakra is located at the center of your forehead and its color is Indigo Blue. Also known as the “third eye”, this chakra is a direct connection to the infinite source of universal knowledge. This Chakra governs imagination, visualization and psychic awareness. When functioning properly, a person is open and receptive to vision, direction and insights from their Higher Self. The person centered in this Chakra will have inner sight, clear perceptions and will find clarity wherever they focus.
Seventh Chakra (Crown Chakra): This Chakra is located at the highest point in your body at the crown of your head and its color is Violet-White. This Chakra governs the consciousness of spiritual awakening and inner wisdom. Opening the Seventh chakra can take regular practice of daily meditation, prayer, desire to be of service and living a life of unconditional love. The person centered in this Chakra will know the reality beyond the physical senses and experience bliss.
Visualization to balance and heal your Chakras:
Sit in a comfortable cross legged position on the floor or on a chair with feet flat touching the floor. Spine straight, eyes closed and palms up in your lap. Take a long deep breath and visualize white light of protection surrounding your body.
Continue to breathe in and out deeply, relaxing the body completely. When you feel a sense of connection with your body, mentally bring your attention to your spine. Starting from the base of your spine imagine energy moving up the spine from red base Chakra to the Orange Sacral Chakra, to the Yellow Navel Chakra, and then to the Green Heart Chakra. Take a moment to breathe in and out three times here at your Heart Chakra. Radiate love and peace with each breath visualize yourself surrounded with this loving green energy.
Continue to move your awareness up to the throat Chakra and imagine pure Blue light energy. Move your energy and attention up to the sixth Chakra, focusing on an Indigo Blue. Finally move your energy to the top of your head. Imagine White light pouring into your Crown Chakra, illuminating your entire body. Stay focused and let this energy vibrate throughout your body. Allow yourself to feel balanced, peaceful and radiant. You can stay here for as long as you like and when you are ready, slowly come out of your visualization.
