I was loath to write about the subject of 2012 because it is already bordering on trite. So many opinions and projections have been written about 2012 and the “end” of the Mayan Calendar that there is very little left to be said. There are many other cultures and religions that reference the same 2012 time frame as the Mayan’s. What does that really mean?
Of course, all I can do is express my own opinion and projections, and what can I say that hasn’t already been said? Nothing perhaps, but I will throw my hat in the ring of those predicting no major impact and the importance of as many people as possible sharing the “good news you can use” with countless others—and in different styles. As I was contemplating this article—I generally write them in my head before I ever sit at the computer—several people asked me my opinion on 2012. When I offered my view they said, “Hmm, I hadn’t thought about it that way.” So, perhaps for some this will be a different take so here goes my theories.
I don’t believe 2012 is the end of the world. I whole heartedly predict that it will be as traumatic as Y2K was and we all know how anti-climactic that was. Still, a lot of people made tons of money on the fear created by the threat all our computers would simultaneously self-destruct at the stroke of midnight 2000—in addition to much more predicted mayhem. It turned out to be a real yawner.
I am, however, concerned about the whole 2012 phenomenon because it is taking many of us out of the moment of our lives and into a future time which most of us feel we have no control over. That is a certain recipe for disaster on a personal, if not global, level. If the collective consciousness is predominated by those in fear of whatever is coming in 2012 then we will create the proverbial self-fulfilling prophecy. What an extraordinarily human being thing to do!
The way I see it there are probably enough people in the world who have never given a thought to the Mayans or their calendar or the idea that 2012 is anything other than another year in the future. Then there are more and more—thank goodness!—people coming to the realization that while 2012 maybe an apex of the current energy shifts of our species it is not going to be a mass chaos situation. That is to say, it won’t be unless we create our reality in that fashion and we always have that option.
Examples are a great way to explain anything, so let's recall a time in our not-so-distant past when everyone believed the world was flat. Everyone accepted the theory as truth until it was proven wrong by adventurous explorers. A fundamental truth change such as that concept was surely not so easy on many individuals because it would have shaken part of the very foundation of their life long belief system. For that truth to be changed to, The World Is Round, a greater percentage of people on the planet had to accept the new truth—over the old one—to shift the collective consciousness. Then, voila! We now were living with a new truth and a round world that once was flat.
Metaphorically speaking when that new truth about the planet became the new reality for the majority of the species, we in effect shifted from a two dimensional world into a three dimensional world. There were, no doubt, many arguments for the old thinking and the new concept in the process of shifting the collective consciousness, but how much did it really affect people’s daily lives? Did anyone get up in the morning and get dressed differently because the world had suddenly become round instead of flat? Not likely. The world did, however, become a different place with many new possibilities. A small percentage of the population did have life altering experiences through this new reality—and they began to explore the world in a new way. In this process Races met that had never known of each other’s existence. And the rest, as they say, is history.
What if 2012 is the plateau to yet another metaphorical dimension for us? Can we consider that possibility without getting into fear over it? How do we prepare for it? What if it is not true at all and the Mayans just happened to get that far in their calendar before they mysteriously vanished from the planet?
All of the above questions may be addressed in the same way. Just live in the present and do your job. Enjoy the process while you are at it and remember that your success in life depends on the successes of those around you and how you play a part in making that happen. Love better. Live better. Everyday find a way to improve yourself and accomplish something. It doesn’t have to be monumental in scope to make a huge difference for the world. Every little bit of love and kindness helps us all. Make living in the present moment a mission, a goal, a delightful challenge!
There are many people promoting ways to “prepare” for 2012, and I am not by any means negating what they are proposing. There are energy shifts going on and they will be getting stronger as we move into the future. Honoring that process and paying attention to the shifts and changes within us is imperative to the process for all of us.
Some people say that 2012 will bring “the ascension” and perhaps that is true in a way. I do, however believe that any ascension going on is within the ones who will opt to stay here and repair the damage we have done, thus creating a courageous and more loving future. Are we up to the task? Only time will tell, but I’m rooting for the human home team!
