Gemini—The Twins
(Born May 22 through June 21)

     Knowing a Gemini intimately requires that one is comfortable being with several different personalities all wrapped up in one person. Gemini’s zodiac symbol describes the sign perfectly—an image of identical twins physically who of course we know have distinctive personalities. One personality will dominate in their conduct and then disappear or perhaps blend into others they project from time to time. Getting a “fix” on a Gemini requires being very open and tolerant especially if you need to know exactly where one of them stands on most issues, life and their own self expression at the moment.

     The Gemini exhibits profound adaptability being quite artistic, versatile, and very mentally energetic. Creativity seems to be part of them and they are always on the move, at least in their minds. As a matter of fact they get bored easily and seek mental challenges just to be stimulated and to feel more alive. Also, in this package comes a remarkable wittiness. In their minds they can assess and rapidly respond to a situation with clever pronouncements while most people are still assessing the issues. They are able to cope with most anything they face with their logical and reasonable approach to everything. Most are optimistic and they express themselves wonderfully verbally in writing and through their actions.

     These are intellectual creatures motivated much, much more by thought than what might come through their senses. They are inquisitive people by nature, feeling somehow that if they acquire enough knowledge and experience, they can become whole having learned what they need to know. They have a versatile approach to life in that they regularly deal with both the concrete situations at hand as well as dwelling in abstract thought growing out of their challenges and experiences.

     Their attitudes can change in a flash and range from rage to relaxation and many stages in between. Meanwhile they can easily forget what has been said by another or even what they provided in conversations at sometime in the past. That, however, does not mean they do not remember things as they are always inquisitive and looking for new information and ideas regardless of their respective ages and retaining much of that is inevitable.

     Being so innately curious and probing most everything, the Gemini often get involved in too many things at the same time. Rather than completing something, they begin another which makes it quite difficult for them to maintain a direction that they have chosen earlier. Unfortunately until this approach is understood and curbed by their individual personal actions, much that was begun will not be finished. These people multi-task usually with ease but can quickly slide into overload unless they are alert to that potential and proceed with conscious care.

     Although they wonder about much in the world and have a wide range of thought, mental concentration for most of them is very hard to come by. It has to be developed to be a part of their lives and usually only comes in their later years when they decide to try and cultivate that skill. Meanwhile they can store up a wide range of information that is never really utilized as their lives unfold. Learning to apply themselves consistently can have enormous benefits given their inherent intellectual strengths.

     Those born while the sun is in Gemini enjoy learning in many different forms and will likely be avid readers all their lives. However, they read so much that often not too much sinks in. As they read they can get quickly bored and would rather move on to something else than complete what they have begun. Still what they have experienced and believe to be the case will be told and retold and in a rather reasonable way even if it is wrong or maybe inaccurate to some degree.

     Their response to truth when contrary to their current take on things will usually be handled with humor and simply moving on by to another of their many interests. Slowing down to process and make a change is not a usually their response. Being open-minded and flexible, they generally will at least attempt to understand another’s opinions and be tolerant of diversity for the most part. They are very sociable animals and delight in frequent conversations regardless of outcomes.

     A Gemini will change directions, ways of living, and interests quickly—and at times quite suddenly. They seek variety and are everywhere pursuing current interests with little discernable patterns of conduct. Even if they are intellectually stimulated by their work, they often have outside interests they are pursuing vigorously. They sometimes have a side business that they somehow seem to do even though their primary work appears to need all their energy and thought. Significant career changes within their chosen discipline over a life time are more than likely. They are mentally restless and simply need more outlets for their minds to explore and experience to have what they deem can be a stimulating life.

     HOW TO SUPPORT A GEMINI: Recognize that they need to be making use of their intellectual approach to most everything. They like to talk and share what they know so being a good listener and probing their experiences that produced their opinions is a fine compliment and attention getter. You will likely be entertained in the process. They enjoy sharing with others in a humorous way. Their tasks and environment should include considerable contact with the public as they perform their vocational responsibilities.

     These are people who are frequently artists in whatever they engage in whether it’s their hobbies, homemaking, or vocational pursuits. They are constant creators making the scene they find themselves different, exciting at least to them, and renewed if at all possible. How it was done yesterday is no precedent for the future unless they do not see how it could be changed to bring improvement.

    Being ruled by the planet Mercury, these folks are natural communicators and certainly big talkers as a rule. They feel compelled “to get the word out” one way or another and at least describe what is going on now as they view the situation or situations they face. Working in journalistic endeavors is a natural outlet for many of them, because they compulsively communicate wherever they are found. Writing is a major outlet of self expression for many Gemini.

     Using the telephone is almost more important to them than having meals. There is always one more call they feel they need to make either to relate news, discover what they do not have immediate access to, or simply to connect with others. The joke is that if they have to have surgery, it is usually to remove the telephone receiver from one of their ears where it rests most of their waking hours. Calls are even planned during the night when they are faced with frequent periods of insomnia not being able to turn their active minds off to rest deeply.

     TIPS FOR WORKING WITH A GEMINI: Give them space to move around and do things in their own way even if the course you lay out will govern their overall performance of a task, large or small. Once they decide what they are involved in is in fact their chosen expression, then they will undoubtedly make it as diversified and multi-faceted as possible. They want to make their activities fun to them personally and the effort rewarding for their creativity. All types of personalities are interesting to them and not being around people would be a major turn-off to them.

     Be aware, however, that they are not easy to talk with even though they are natural communicators themselves. By their intellectual approach, they do not often have tolerance for what they deem as hazy, inconclusive thinking. They are certain this flawed thinking comes from sentiment which they feel can often lead to wrong conclusions. Gemini often do most of the talking wherever they appear on the scene.

     They often will ask for opinions being curious about approaches, methodologies, and ways to improve their own lives. Those opinions are sought from many and frequently with those they see as leaders in a particular field of inquiry. Unless the Gemini seeker finds information that is not in conflict with what has been heard personally before, they will listen. However, if answers and responses they receive are different from what they have heard or read elsewhere, they will tend to disregard what they are being told. That is the case no matter how much evidence there is to an answer for what they are seeking. Then amazingly they will come back once again and ask the same question of the same people they trusted for answers before.

     HEALTH MATTERS FOR A GEMINI: Being so preoccupied with their thoughts and in their minds, maintenance of their bodies often has no priority and therefore actions as far as their chosen lifestyle. By mid-life many have serious health concerns which have come in part by lack of attention to what is necessary to keep the physical body functioning at its optimum levels. Besides things like exercise, nutritional and supplement support, enough sleep in a world filled with exciting things to explore is just not appealing. Rarely are such practices prioritized…until there is a collapse that intercedes. Adequate rest and renewal times are critical along the way but extremely hard for them to recognize before it is too late.

     Unless they are willing to sincerely promise to incorporate a healthy lifestyle, you are NOT likely to be heard when you talk about their health with Gemini. They will talk a lot about it with anyone who can offer guidance, but most want others around them to take care of them so they are free to be creative and on the go as they please. To insist on commitment from the outset probably isn’t going to work. However if you are sincere about helping, please know that an agreement to control their conduct is vital for any kind of success. Each must embrace new or at least different priorities which they currently ignore or are reluctant to do because it restricts them. Then with true honored promises by them, progress toward well being can be achieved because they have become partners in achieving a different way of living. In any case, however, expect to frequently debate anything you suggest to help them even if they solicit your input. Amusingly they often have the final say in the active discussion, too.

     Gemini usually exudes considerable charm and displays all kinds of impressive talent. Their quick wit will be quite welcomed in most any company. They sell their views with their excitement about whatever interests them. Their sharp minds and cleverness make them easily received in many lives they encounter. Their mental agility and vigor attract many to hear what they have to say whether verbally or in writing in one form or another. Nevertheless, the best of them have found ways to at times put feelings ahead of facts and describe theirs which greatly helps others relate to them as fellow human beings. Then their communications not being all “head stuff” have the potential of becoming dynamic and even transforming in the lives of some of their listeners.
