Maybe I am alone in this, but I doubt it. Anyone who is on a Spiritual Path of some kind knows that it requires some Introspection, fact finding and mirror gazing (on an emotional and mental level as well as physical). When we look in that mirror, do we like what we see? Are we happy with where our choices have taken us? Are we truly taking responsibility for those choices?
All that can be time consuming and downright confusing from time to time. One minute we think we are on the right path then BOOM, something happens that makes us question where we are and where we are going. It is an ongoing tweaking process this Spiritual Path stuff and it certainly can get confusing and downright difficult at times.
Really, look at all the information out there to help us learn and grow. We can look at past lives and how they are affecting our present circumstances. Then we can take a peek at futures lives, parallel lives, multi-dimensional lives and, well it’s no wonder our heads spin from time to time. There are days when just getting my To Do List accomplished seems like a major feat in itself. Now I have to wonder how my every thought, word and action is affecting me in all those “other lives”. Good grief. It can make a person want to throw in the towel on the whole process.
And remember that while you are doing all of that introspective, mirror gazing, multiple life analyzing you are supposed to stay “in the moment” at all times. It is truly enough to make our heads spin and then some. So, what’s a body to do about it?
Looking at past lives can be very helpful to the present moment. I’ve heard a number of people pooh-pooh (did I just write that?) past lives by saying something like, “Yeah, and everyone is Cleopatra or Jesus or Jesus’ right hand person or Edgar Cayce in a prior life. No one is ever just Joe Blow.” What good does it do to know about a Joe Blow past life? If you are getting a famous person for a past life then you no doubt resonate with that character and have something to learn from his or her life experiences. If you find you were Cleopatra in a past life (or a similar famous character) then you may need to work on Power Issues in this lifetime—you may need to bring in more regal energy to accomplish what you are here to do.
If you happened to have been Edgar Cayce then you might be struggling with a conflict between religion and spirituality. You probably also have intuitive gifts at a higher level than most of the people around you. Let’s not take these things too literally or we will miss the real learning curve this information can provide.
Have you ever met someone that thinks they were Jesus? I certainly have—most of them don’t come right out and say it but you can tell they believe it. Now, I do have an issue with anyone trying to convince others that they are someone from a past life. That’s rather like being an Elvis impersonator, no matter how good you are it is still impersonation and you will never be known for who you are.
The whole future and parallel lives issue is more interesting to me. If you believe your past lives have affected your present life then doesn’t it follow that your present life is building the foundation for your future lives? Make sense to me. If you extrapolate that out then you realize you have the power in each moment to not only create your current situation but to affect your next one. Whew! That should make us stop and think a bit. What kind of building blocks are you creating?
I think this concept has the power to shift things for some people. If we can’t do the right thing for our own good then perhaps we will for the sake of our future incarnation. If you have trouble with the concept of allowing yourself all good things then just pretend you are doing it for the child you will be one day. Yikes, that just opens up new worlds doesn’t it?
Then we get down to just what is “the right thing” to do? That depend on what you came to do—which in my knowing is based on your talents and challenges from past lives and your personality and interests on a soul level. In addition, we must all look at being cycle breakers in this lifetime for any negative lineage habits passed down in our families. If there was abuse—be where it stops. If there was a lack of love—be where love starts. And also take it upon yourself to continue the positive lineage habits passed down through your genes. We all have some of both so don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Perhaps we are making different choices and living different lives in parallel universes—who knows for sure? Whether that is the case or not, it shouldn’t change your quest to make the best choices for yourself in the here and now. In the moment, each moment, and in a perfect universe I can imagine those moment-by-moment choices are radiating out to all of our lives past, future, parallel and more.
Now, that is personal power at its most majestic zenith! Use it wisely.
There is a poem in my book The Art of Conscious Evolution that speaks to me loudly these days—even more so than when I wrote it years ago:
With Wisdom
I make choices that
Bring Peace
Into my life,
Creating fertile ground
For Love
To take root and grow
Thus, I do the
Greatest Service
To Mankind
