Wavespell of the Blue Monkey
January 19-31, 2012
On January 19, 2012, the Wavespell of the Blue Monkey starts with thirteen days to play and awaken our inner child!
When we were children, we knew how to have fun! We played and enjoyed everything we did, especially the simple things. As we grew up, we got so caught by the ‘system’ and our obligations and responsibilities that we started to forget how to take things easily and use humor to heal.
The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) — Antoine Saint Exupéry
I would like to share with you in this Wavespell message a book that marked my childhood in so many ways. If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend you to do so.
This fable was first published in 1943 and has been known since as a ‘children’s book’ although, in reality, it is a book for all ages with very profound messages written in a very simple way and beautiful drawings to awaken our inner child.
The story is told by a pilot who crashed his airplane in the Sahara desert. As a child, he used to draw a boa constrictor swallowing an elephant, but adults interpreted his drawing as a hat. Frustrated, and after being told he should focus on other things, he decided to become a pilot. He was very lonely in the desert until the Little Prince appeared in his life…
The Little Prince lived in a very small asteroid, where he had only one rose and three volcanoes. Tired of the vanity of his flower, he decided one day to leave home in search of new friends. In his journey, he visited different planets until he got to Earth.
In his childlike innocence and purity, he couldn’t understand adults. He considered them narrow-minded and stubborn, lacking creativity and imagination. Adults were constantly worried with trivial things, stuck in their routines and trapped in their own creations, forgetting how to play and enjoy life.
In his several encounters, he wondered why adults were unable to appreciate life the same way children did. He realized they took life too seriously, ending up being lonely and unhappy. What adults considered as ‘serious matters’ were not the real important and meaningful things in life.
Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.
Among others, he met with a king who claimed the universe to be is kingdom. He was so egocentric and proud of himself, that he turned into a very solitary person and nobody wanted to spend time with him.
In another planet, he found a businessman that was too busy counting the starts just because he ‘possessed’ them. The Little Prince saw his ownership as purposeless because he was not even taking care of the stars or remembering what they were.
The Little Prince also met with a vain man who only wanted to be admired; a drunk man who drank to forget his shame of drinking; a tired lamplighter who just followed orders turning lamps on and off in a tiny planet where a new day started every minute; and a geographer who wrote books based on information he collected from other explorers, but had no creation of his own.
On Earth, he met with a fox who taught him the true meaning of love, making him understand the importance of looking beneath the surface to find the real value of things. The Little Prince realized how important his rose was because he had loved, nurtured and protected making her very special to him.
I will let you read the book to learn from the discussions the Little Prince has with the pilot, his experience with the serpent and the importance of using our imagination so beautifully shown through the drawing of the box containing the perfect sheep he needed. As the book reminds us, we can only learn the lessons and achieve true understanding through our personal experience and interpretation.
It is only with one's heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.

In Lak’esh means “I am another yourself!”, a Mayan greeting that recognizes the Divine in each living Being. It’s a message of Unity that reminds us that, when we give, we are also receiving. In this way, the Mayan honored and respected each other, reinforcing the belief that we are all interconnected: what we do to others and to our environment will also affect ourselves in the end…
